- The Dance Elephant Team
WHO WE ARE
www.dance-elephant.org is run by dance artists and other artists interested in dance. We are choreographers, composers, dancers, dance administrators, computer nerds, dance fans and and and…
WHAT WE DO
www.dance-elephant.org provides free online access to an up-to-date online database of information pertaining to a career in dance including audition listings, performance calendars, job postings, links to and information on pertinent resources, service organizations, and vendors. www.dance-elephant.org also provides a format for an online community to share ideas, ask questions and engage in discussions about any topic related to dance in New York City.
WHY?
We at www.dance-elephant.org believe that there are already enough challenges for dance artists to face in New York City. The cost of living and working in dance is high -- a fact made more difficult by the limited financial resources, both public and private, for dance artists combined with the common need to earn a living outside the field.
Dance-elephant.org also believes that dance artists are some of the most creatively industrious folks around. They figure out how to put on dance shows for under $100, how to reduce their living costs to well below those of the average New Yorker, and how to have fun in the meantime. They create non-monetary economies, dance collectives, and all manner of other solutions that help them accomplish their artistic goals.
At the very least, this dance community deserves an efficient information center that empowers the community by simultaneously pointing people to the available resources and encouraging people to share their resourcefulness, learn from each other’s mistakes, and constantly engage each other in discussions about critical issues facing the dance world. The aim of dace-elephant.org is to provide this resource. We believe that when you connect people with resources and foster constant communication, you create a stronger, bolder community that can make a larger footprint in the world.
