Lower Manhattan Cultural Council

If it's art in Downtown, it's probably us...or one of hundreds of artists and organizations we fund, promote and present. From Wall Street to Mulberry, from the Battery to the Bowery, from the East River to the Hudson, the Council enlivens the arts downtown. Workspace places artists in studios just blocks from Wall Street, changing what it means to “work” in the Financial District. SWING SPACE: Matching artists and organizations with temporarily vacant commercial space through partnerships with the real estate community, Swing Space currently provides artists with over 60,000 sq ft of space from Canal Street to the South Street Seaport. PERFORMANCE: Evening Stars is New York City’s largest free outdoor dance festival, making world-renowned talent available to the public in Battery Park. The choreographers of Sitelines prove that street corners, storefronts and staircases are stage enough -- all part of the annual summer-long River to River Festival. WHAT COMES AFTER: Cities, Art, and Recovery, an international summit, considers how people remember, rebuild and move forward after tragedy bringing together artists, writers, architects, scholars, activists, and civic leaders for an exchange of ideas around the anniversary of September 11th. GRANTS: Five million for the downtown arts community over three years, on top of our annual grants that cover all of Manhattan. That means funding for artists and organizations, workshops on building resources, plus a full range of management, marketing and finance programs.
